The Inclusion Department meets the many and varied needs of pupils within the school. The SENDCO, Ms Connor, heads a department which includes a Deputy SENDCO, an EAL (English as an Additional Language) Co-ordinator as well as Teaching Assistants.  At Wanstead High School, we have a culture of inclusion and diversity in which everyone can participate in school life. Our Department goal mirrors the whole school ethos ‘to liberate the potential of all pupils to aspire, achieve and succeed in their learning’ and this lies at the heart of all the work that we do with our young people.

We work with a range of SEND pupils with needs in the following areas: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, Sensory and/or physical needs and pupils with English as an Additional Language.  We support pupils with Statements of SEND/Education Health and Care Plans as well as those at SEND support. 

Support is largely provided in class.  We work with all teachers in our school to provide access to the curriculum for pupils who require help.  Where appropriate, pupils may work in small groups and support is, as far as possible, tailored to meet individual needs.  We aim to develop independent young people ready for the next stage in their lives whether that is for work, further study or apprenticeships.

We believe in partnership working with parents – we value the input of parents and aim to work with them to achieve the best outcomes for their sons/daughters.  We work efficiently and effectively with a number of agencies including Educational Psychologists and Outreach teachers.  Please read our SEND Policy and SEND Information report for further information.
